Self-concept is a hot topic in psychology. A lot of studies have indicated that self-concept and mental health are correlated significantly, meaning that positive self-concept promotes mental health. The self-concept of college students who are in the late adolescence is still under development. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to investigate their self-concept and counseling effect for mental health education in colleges.This research consists of three parts.Part one discusses the progress of the research on self-concept, and analyses college students' self-concept base on a surrey.Part two talks about some basic counseling's approaches and forms including theory on cognitive adjusting-behavioral training-emotional expressing training in direction of humanistic theory which is commonly used in counseling for college students.Part three deals with the relationship between college students' self-concept and their mental health, and the developmental issues of their self-concept. Then, the application and effect of three counseling forms are discussed.The results show that helping college students evaluate their selves correctly and accept them is an effective way to improve their mental health. Different forms of counseling should be used according to the issues in order to better effectiveness.
