This paper attempts to analyze the characteristics of DMU Maritime English teaching and IMO's Maritime English MODEL Course. Examples and grafts are utilized to describe and compare their syllabus designs and teaching methods. Through the comparison,some suggestions are presented on DMU's syllabus structure and content,teaching methods,teachers training and assessment,etc. For example,subject listening course should be added into DMU's syllabus. It is better for the students to listen to more subject topics and various accents,which does good to their future jobs.
