Swiss Royal College awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature to Boris Pasternak in 1958 for "his outstanding achievement in the field of modern lyric poem and great Russian narrative literary tradition" . As is known to all, the significant reason that helps Pasternak won the prize is the novel Doctor Zhivago .For a long time, people due the main reason of Doctor Zhivago's popularity in both west and east to its political trend . However, this thesis points out that the poetic aesthetic characteristics of Doctor Zhivago act as the main part of its classicalization.This thesis covers three chapters. Based on close reading of the text, the author of Chapter One shows the different ways of plot-construction between Doctor Zhivago and traditional novels . It includes the relation and changing among three places, the pause in several scenes, and the expression of poetic life through long trudge . Chapter Two focuses on the figures and excavates the poetic emotion of Zhivago and Lara. As a poet and a woman of colorful soul, Zhivago and Lara sing poetically together. Chapter Three mainly analyses the works' tragic speciality, pointing out its characteristics as describing the intellectuals' tragic fates for a whole generation . Further more, the special lyric attitude, narrative rhythm and the language style of this book are also discussed in the thesis.Generally speaking, this thesis is a whole and systematic study on the poetry of this marvelous narrative works.
