The neo-historic novel "newness" can not simply be understood as the innovation of the topics, but is embodied in its new historic consciousness, in contrast to that held in traditional historic novels. This new historic consciousness is expressed through the changes in the textual historic narration and clearly indicates the neo-historic novels'value appeal for rewriting history. The neo-historic novelists, when dealing with historic topics, refuse consciously the understanding of the history from political and class notions. They either try to restore the real conditions of the history, or depict in their unique style the history in their own understanding through their life experience. The impetus of historic civilization is human desire. And the development of the history is not necessarily an inexorable trend but has great fortuity, or even to a certain degree is mihilistric and fatalistic. Based on this historic consciousness , the narration and discourse in the neo-historic novels also take on diversified features: the subjectivity of the creative subject diminishes; self-narration to the objective by-stander' or secondary narration, hence forming a marginal narrative eature. Among the neo-historic novels, many due to the shift from macronarration to folklore writing, have reflected the narrative features of folk tales. At the same time, for a free space for themselves to depict the post-modernism and conducted casually the experiment of different narrations in order to diminish the historic truthfulness and create a circumstance of uncertainty and nihility. The neo-historic novel has positive significance in lifting and re-explaining the history ,but prevailing in the neo-historic novels are the non -mainstream, irrational values of the western post-moderrism and neohistoricism. Such traditional cultural connotations as the inherent historic rational principles national affections of the Enlightenmentalism are relatively weakened. As a result, the writer" free and subjective writing is quite different from their original wish to rewrite history and finally they fall into a paradox.
