Poetry Pluralism Harmony

It is an undoubted fact that Wang Zengqi's works have distinctive artistic charm. However, there is no meticulous and profound research of his works in terms of probing into his artistic charm at present. This paper analyzes the features of his works in light of language, structure, literary form and writing style by the combination of reading his works thoroughly and studying his artistic appreciation, personal experience and character traits. The paper is developed in the following three sections:I. Poetic language and an original linguistic outlookThe creation of the prosaic and harmonious beauty of artistic conception and the beauty of undulating musical rhythm in the co-existence of the elegant and the common, by mixing the most elegant language and the most common language, is the originality of Wang Zengqi's writing language. His distinguishing artistic features originate not only from the vast cultural build-up of the learning of the works of other writers and the classic works, in which he rolled ancient culture, folk culture and modern culture into one, but also the theoretic guidance of his original linguistic outlook. Wang Zengqi originally stated that language has "fluidity", "ability to hint" and "meaningfulness ". Wang Zengqi's personality of not fussing about fame and wealth resulted in his creation of the prosaic harmonious artistic conception. His writing language is the external embodiment of his personality. The beauty of his musical language comes from his born sensitivity to phoneme and rhyme and his systematic study of them. The phonologic and rhyming beauty of his language offers an alarm and example to the fading and forgetting of the phonologic and rhyming beauty of ourmother language since the May 4th Movement.II. Writing style and structure with the beauty of proseIn light of structure, the beginnings and endings of Wang Zengqi's works are natural and smooth, like floating clouds and flow running water. There is no way to find the plot and structure of traditional novels as well as suspense and coincidence in his works. Though the external structures of his works look like "casual" and "loose", it is by skillfully and cleverly using 3 artistic techniques-"creating literary grace by fluent and vivid language", "leaving enough space for readers to imagine" and "expressing the theme and goal of writing in the bottom part of a work"-that he turns his superficial loose works into complete artistic works. These artistic techniques originate from his reference and employment of traditional poetic theories, theories of calligraphy and painting theories. His style obviously has a tendency to prose for the casual and loose structure his works. His style makes his novel closer to real life, more cordial and lyric. Therefore, he achieved his stylistic pursue to break the bounds of poetry, prose and fiction.III. A harmonious artistic style with freshness, plainness and indifference to fame and wealthTo seek harmony is Wang ZengQi's artistic style and artistic life. Therefore, his works do not have splendid forms, but use poetic and intelligent language that is pure, fresh, plain and simple. The beginnings and endings of his work are natural and smooth for their natural and casual structures. His works are of appropriate length. His works demonstrate the peaceful daily life of common citizens. His characters who are peaceful and indifferent to fame and wealth can get harmoniously along with others, the society and the nature. All of these are linked to Wang Zengqi's benevolence and his gentle and tolerant disposition which is indifferent to fame and wealth as well as the restriction of his neutral aesthetic view.
