Today's painting group presented us a complexion with complicated thought of painting and kinds of unclear artistical level. Many kinds of novel thoughts of painting and modality of painting continuously came forth in our eyeshot, impacted our thought of painting and changed our concept of painting. As a concept of painting that was transferred from west to our country at the beginning of the last century, appearance of canvas in Europe and development of canvas in the world illuminated that canvas had already broken through the limitation of nation and region and become psychic treasure of all mankind. But in our country, a lot of artist had not got rid of the restriction of narrow concept of traditional culture, so they could not set individuality free and paint a work frankly. How to incarnate the special charm of art of Chinese canvas? How to realize social value of art of Chinese canvas? These problems are very difficult to answer but these problems need to be solved immediately.At the beginning of 20th century, a lot of Chinese painter, theorist of the fine arts and educationist of the fine arts had done some active useful exploration on some problems such as how to use the foreign art for reference, how to inherit our traditional culture and art, etc. Their opinions and viewpoints were very useful in today's teaching work of canvas.This paper has several points:(1) Emergence of modern educational thoughts of the fine arts. At the beginning of 20th century, national Chinese painting art smartly conflicted with foreign art that was transferred in China. In that special period full of freedom and reformation, there were a lot of educationist of the fine arts come into being in China and educational thoughts of the fine arts of three masters of them such as Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian and Pan Tianshou were very important.(2) Compare of the educational thoughts of the fine arts of Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian and Pan Tianshou. In this part, there was compare of three masters' thoughts of the fine arts and the effect these thoughts on social development. At last the thought of Pan Tianshou's "Taking advantages of traditional thoughts to enlighten today's art" was affirmed.(3) Based on traditional culture and absorbing nutrition broadly. Each nation had its special ideology and tasting psychology because of its different custom and history. When we study painting art we must inherit traditional national cultures and strengthen the absorption and using of the pick of the basket of different national cultures.I have some viewpoints: the development of Chinese canvas must base itself on our traditional cultures. By learning and using the pick of the basket of traditional cultures we can deeply understand psychic meaning of our national cultures and bring up our national individuality, so we can indite excellent works that could reflect our nation's spirit and characteristic. At the same time, because art remain with all mankind we must broadly absorb the pick of the basket of foreign art and continuously supply new qualities for the development of Chinese canvas.
