As an individual in the contemporary context of globalization, regardless of which culture system is in place,it is inevitable that one encounters the fragmentation and superficiality of globalization.Nevertheless,it is necessary to mine and wrestle with not only cultural heritage but also these are encounters through globalization, digging beyond the surface to gain a deeper understanding.whereas a trend in western art’s evolution from modern to postmodern and contemporary art scene has been a greater inclusion of diversity,at the same time, the extreme of uncritical acceptance. At the same time, there has been a fragmentation of the state of art, both conceptually and technically. It is within this context that German artist Anselm Keifer stands as a long figure,as one who is deeply rooted and invested in the rich soil of cultural history and poetry. In a context where others argue that ’painting is dead’ and superficiality reigns,he presents a powerful refutation as he used broad artistic language to visualize history, even exploring the complex history of mankind itself.his paper attempts to explore and analyze the creative context of Keifer and how the concepts such as integration and transformation are at work in his pieces. It concludes with an examination of ways in which these concepts resonate with underlying core ones of Chinese artistic philosophy.
