A Tentative Study Of The Vicissitude Of "Wu' An Pingdiao

The Pingdiao opera this dissertation discusses especially means a regional drama, which is popular in Wu'an city of Handan region in the south of Hebei province. It belongs to the system of "Bangzi", Banqiang style. It has all type of roles and arias. It owns more than two hundred traditional theatrical programs. The type of roles of Pingdiao used to be said having "Four Girders and Eight Poles", in which Four Girders are Honglian> Heilian> Qingyi and Xiaosheng. These Four Girders have their own arias with different styles.This dissertation is to investigate the development of Pingdiao in two aspects. First, the history of opera troupes of Pingdiao from the beginning of 20th century and their adaptations to the society are described. Second, from the aspect of the music, the aria style development of the Four Girders, accompany instructions and the style of accompany are analyzed. This dissertation is to study the effects of society on Pingdiao opera, while illustrates its value in arts and its development with social history.With the development of times,the changes of society and the economic globalization, most of the regional dramas are facing the problem of surviving. This project is trying to provide some historic experiences, at this diverging point, for the surviving of Wuan Pingdiao. Furthermore, it is also a reference for the modernization of drama.
