The process of writing this thesis is not a smooth one, during which interruptions occur frequently. However, thanks to the instructions and helps that I have received, I could always manage to pick up the course and fulfill it finally. My sincere thanks first go to my instructor, Ms Sui Yun, for her hearty concern for me after an accident, and her timely help and persistent encouragement, in addition to her pertinent academic insight that gives me all the guidance during the course of writing this thesis. My hearty gratitude is also forwarded to Mr. Zhao Guangyi, who shared with me much of his experience in writing thesis and furnished me with a lot of valuable information about empirical studies.I should express my thanks to my friends Miss Li Xiaochu and Miss Cui Qingxin. They spared time out of their busy schedules to help me with the pilot study, and provided their first-hand information about the test designs.Three graduate English majors in Grade One, Miss Xu Lin, Miss Wu Qiong, and Miss Sun Yanru, deserve my gratitude. Their earnest attitude towards and great devotion in the test promised a successful and smooth operation. The last but definitely not the least, I extend my thankfulness to my friend Mr. Yin Qi, who is always available in assisting me getting important literature and documents from the Library of Peking University.
