The Study Of The Chinese Loan Words In English

The object of this paper is to study the Chinese loan words in English.This paper concentrates on the study of the assimilation process of the Chinese loan words, and pays much attention to the features in each assimilation phase. It also attempts to explain the source languages and the transmission languages of the Chinese loan words in English. A comprehensive study based on classification is carried out to review the fields that the Chinese loan words cover. By studying the cultures reflected by Chinese loan words, the essay tries to demonstrate that loaning is not only a linguistic but also a socio-linguistic phenomenon.This paper hopes to have some practical value. It is written in the hope that it can help English learners develop an interest and appreciation for English loan words from Chinese and help them enlarge their vocabulary efficiently. It is also expected that foreigners can familiarize themselves with Chinese cultures by reading this paper.
