The purpose of this research is fouding an inventory of mental qualities for Chinese college students.From psychological activities and levels of ordinary people, we investigate psychological experts and teachers and master degree studentsetc. on what the mantel qualities of college students are. A ccording their answers and some other theories, we organize an initial questionnaire and investigate 800 college students by stratified random sampling. We analyze their answers and get that mental qualities for college students have 5 dimensions, such as self-control ability, reaction ability, adaption ability,self-adaption ability, and intelligence. And it includs 8 factors, such as resist frustration, self-confidence, psychokinesis, environment adaption, etc. We select several questions for each factors, add 5 test questions and 1 guide question, a 54-questions' questionnaire produced. We investigate 480 college students and analyze their answers also by stratified random sampling. And get the predict questionnaire. Then, 54 questions were selected for make up the inventory. We test 480 college students by this inventory and analyze it' s reliability and validity.The results including:1. Mental quality is established on physiology, whidh growing on the effection of the environment and education, and perfornmence in every aspacts of one' s life and has it' s own characteristics.2. The structure of the mental qualities for college students is including five factors: self control, self adaption, reaction,. environment adaption. and ideation. We can test a college student' s personal mental qualities level by this inventory.3. The correlation between the sum of this inventory and each question except the test and the guide question is between 0. 276-0. 583. Every standard error of each question is above 0.25. These show that this inventory has a good distinguishability.4. The reliability of the inventory is between 0.4743-0.6980(n=365). This show it can be trusted relunctantly.5. The correlation of each factor is between 0. 1521~0. 4396, the correlation of each factor and the sum of the inventory is between 0.5670-0.7437. This shows the inventory has a good validity.6. The mental qualities of college students have great difference in sex and grade:the mental qualities of boys' are better than that of girls' ,the mental qualities of youngers' are better than that of olders' . Students come from cities or from countries have the same mental qualities.All these show us that this inventory is a valuable test tool.This result gives important effects with academic and practical on how to develop psychological education and psychological quality training for college students.
