Research Into Current Use Of Classical Poems

China is a country of poems with splendid poetic culture. In the field of research into poetry, including classical poetry, comprehensive, profound and extensive studies have been conducted from the approach of linguistics, literature and art. A lot of works on this subject have come out, and large quantities of good research papers have been published. Thus we can say great achievements have been made in this field. However, all of these linguistic studies on poetry are static and theoretic. In fact, the actual use of poems can be found everywhere in our daily life from visual mass media like newspaper, magazine and advertisement to spoken language. Therefore it has become necessary to do some research into the use of poems. After skimming and reading materials in People's Daily (2000) and South Weekly (1998), the author has collected, sorted out and analyzed more one thousand nine cases of classical poems in use. Knowledge in different areas such as rhetoric, writing, semantics, grammar, pragmatics and psychology has been used when explaining and discussing these examples so as to induce and summarize the laws by which classical poems are used. In this way the article serves as a guide and reference in using classical poems. It will help us strengthen our control over classical poems, improve our writing and transmit poetic culture.
