A Study On The Narrating Of "Shishuoxinyu

This thesis tries to sort out and probe into the narrating of "Shishuoxinyu" (will be called "Shishuo" hereafter) in a systematical way, it's main body consists of three parts.Part one discusses the original relation between the narrating of "Shishuo" and the one of scholars in pre-Qin, histories and biographies, explores how scholars, histories and biographies influented the narrating structure and fashion of "Shishuo".Part two deals with narrating fashion, including narrating structure of "Shishuo", the unintelligible settlement of time, intervention of other stylistic elements, literary quotation, as well as the problem of different appellations of the same person. We found that "Shishuo" had such a narrating structure of "arranging chapters by category, and linking sections together in order". Because it's impossible or unnecessary to be authentic in time for the subject matter like "Shishuo", and because of the effect of philosophical thinking, time is settled unintelligibly; the other stylistic elements make a breakthrough at the function of the original narrating while intervening in the narrating of "Shishuo", meanwhile other stylistic elements enter "Shishuo" with their original characteristic. As a result, the way of narrating of "Shishuo" can be looked as "to be splendid and fragrant by collecting a plenty of flowers"; using lots of literary quotation and different appellation of the same person is also the prominent characteristic of "Shishuo"'s narrating.Part three discusses the narrating style of "Shishuo". The forming of "Shishuo"'s narrating style relates closely to the unique choice of visual angle of narrating, and the visual angle of narrating which indicates the remarkable style of "Shishuo" is tightly bound up with social and cultural psychology at that time. The widespread and profound influence which the narrating of "Shishuo" exerted in later ages is also taken into discussion when ending this thesis.
