Detailed and reliable language research on a specialized book inparticular times is the basis of the research on the history of Chineselanguage. Shishuoxinyu is a note-style novel written by Liu Yiqing duringSong period in Nan dynasty.With a strong spoken characteristic,therefore,ithas been valued by linguists and generally recognized as an importantliterature on the research of ancient and medieval Chinese language.Fromthe point of view of language research,Shishuoxinyu boasts of a clear-cuttimes dirision on language literature,adequate language materials andstrong spoken feature,etc.In this sense, it is quite suitable to be used as theobject of language research on a specialized book in particular times.The research on the adverbs of ancient and medieval Chinese is animportant part of the study on the grammar of ancient Chinese.This essayaims to do the research on the adverbs in Shishuoxinyu. Five parts areincluded in this essay: 1.Introduction. 2. The definition of the adverb andother scholars'opinions on the classification as well as the author's ownproposal of it.3.The detailed description and analysis of the use of adverbsin Shishuoxinyu as well as the overall feature of them. There are altogether437adverbs in Shishuoxinyu, classified into 8 types. 4. The analysis on thedevelopment of adverbs in Shishuoxinyu from synchronic and diachronicpoint of view, and the revelation of its its historical status in the researchon the history of Chinese grammar.5.Conclusion.
