With the development of the Buddhism, the economy of Buddhist temple becomes a important part of the social-economic structures in Middle Ancient period. There is a kind of relationship of contradiction between the economy of Buddhist temple and the society of monarchical power . This paper analyzes the information,development and structure of the economy of Buddhist temple, and explain some characteristics of agriculture socity in Middle Ancient period,using the theory of the institutional change of the New Institutional Economics.lt consists of five parts:Part I is the introduction, in which the study situations about the economy of Buddhist temple and some conceptions are given.Part II explains the survey of the economy of Buddhist temple and its major sources of income during the promulgation of Buddhism. The diversification, one of the characteristics, suffered from the particular position of economy of Buddhism in Middle Ancient period.Part III makes an analysis of the diversification and flexibility ofmanagements, and the adjustment of the economy of the Buddhist temple.Part IV illustrates the conflicts between the economy of Buddhisttemple and the monarchical power , as well as the intervene by violence--" San Wu Fei Fo" (three attacks on Buddhism by Emperor TaiWu inNorthern-wei Dynasty, Emperor Wu in Northern zhou Dynasty, Emperor WuZong in Tang Dynasty.)The last part is the conclusion, which makes an analysis of the characteristics of the economy of Buddhist temple in the Middle Ancient period.
