A Study Of "Tong" In Eryayishu

Eryayishu (《尔雅义疏》) is one of Haoyixing' s works, which is put the most effort on, and also is the best in the books of studying Erya ((《尔雅》)) in successive dynasties. "Using sound to run through exegesis " is eryayishu' s (《尔雅义疏》) distinguished feature. It doesn' t focus on illustrating the meaning of Erya (《尔雅》) dirrectly but on the relation of the sound, form and meaning among words. It often entends to more words from just a word, making words into families of languages. More often, the involving link is "long". "long" is an exegectical terminology in common use. There .are five concrete manifestations, such as "Tong", "Tongzuo", "Tongyong", " (Gu) zitong", "Tongjie" . Regarding "long" as the abject, the thesis observes and studies "long" in Eryayishu (《尔雅义疏》) and the linking words' sound, form and meaning in an overall way. On one hand, the author acknowledges the huge exegectical successes of " long " . On the other hand, the author analyses and distinguishes the existing demerits.Except the foreword and the ending, the thesis is composed of three parts. The first part introduces "Tong" ' s forms of expression distributed conditions and exegectical rules. The second part analyses and induces "Tong" ' s functions, nature and exegectical successes, and also points out that "Tong" is a dim terminology with multiple implications and functions in Eryayishu (《尔雅义疏》) . The third part distinguishes and analyses "Tong" ' s demerit3 in theory and practice on the base of studying other people' s achievements.
