Xinjiang is a minority nationality autonomous region in northwest China with strategic importance, which area amounts to one-sixth of the total area of China. The cities of Xinjiang have complexity situations with varied physiognomies, landforms, climates, nations and religions. The ancient cities of Xinjiang, especially which on the Silk Road were splendid in the past In the first half of the 20th century, the cities in Xinjiang increased and divided into four different kinds: the centers of administration, the hubs of traffic and commerce, die forts of military and the ports of overland communications. The cities of Xinjiang had the features of small number, small scale, underdeveloped urban economy, less developed municipal infiastructures, diversity citizens, complexity between city wall and market, and so on. The city development of Xinjiang were influenced by history, politics, physical geography, economy, nations and religions.The cities of Xinjiang had developed greatly after the construction in the second half of the 20th century. Contrasting to the cities of the developed regions in the interior of China, they have no integrality system, and the development between cities was disequilibrium. Cities development are divided into two styles: by outer force and by self -accumulation. The cities developed by outer force have made great progress, but those by self-accumulation slowly developed, so the two styles also caused the disequilibrium of the cities of Xinjiang. The impetus of the construction of new cities is outer force. Even so, under the condition of the vast and underpopulated area, backward social andeconomic situation, it is necessary to develop by outer force, which drove the rapid development of cities of Xinjiang, rise of new cities and growing up of the midium-sized cities. The midium-sized cities are relevant to urbanization level of different regions, and the former determines the level of the latter. To develop the midium-sized cities could improve urbanization level of different regions, and finally keep the balance of regional developmentThe cities of Xinjiang have close relation with those in the interior of China. Before the reform and open, they benefited from the cities in the interior .Nowadays, they also need the help, such as capital, technology, qualified personnel, management, market plan and so on. At the same time, they should obtain abundant resources and large market Because Xinjiang has the same characters of economy with the countries around it, so although it has its own advantages in opening to the other countries west to it, it must compete to fetch the capital from the western countries with them. Furthermore, mere are ethical divisive factors in Xinjiang. So Xinjiang must go after profits and avoid harms, strengthen the all-around cooperation whh the developed areas in upcountry actively, fetch in and absorb advanced technology and managing experience, make the best of its own advantages of language, culture and religion, become the belt which transfer the modernization from Asia-Pacific to Asia-Europe, establish its own advantages against the circumjacent countries and areas. Only by these, Xinjiang can develop roundly. The development of western China will give the chance to the fast development of Xinjiang again, and information revolution will give technical sustainment to help Xinjiang's development Under the weak ecological condition, it is the only way of Xinjiang's development by protecting environment, constructing ecotypic economy and conducting sustainable development...
