The author has studied systematically the prepositions of Xielegiao dialect in Ningxiang County and paid more attention to the characteristics of those prepositions and compared them with those of Beijing dialect.This essay is divided into four parts. Part I: IntroductionIn this part, Ningxiang dialect is briefed and the sound system of Xieleqiao dialect is discussed. part II: Comparison, Classification & MembersIn this part, the comparasion of prepositions between Xieleqiao Dialect and Beijing Dialect is presented in a table. From the table it's clearly shown that there are 58 prepositions in Xielegiao dialect; among them, 16 belong to it and 42 share those in Beijing dialect. Part III: AnalysisThe 19 prepositions, which mark the clear differences between Ningxiang dialect and Beijing dialect, have been discussed and analysed through sentence structure, semantics and pragmatics. Part IV: ConclusionBased on the analysis of Part II and part III, the following characteristics are sumarized: 1. The grammar of the prepositions of Xieleqiao dialect and Beijing dialect is almost the same. 2. Xieleqiao dialect has monosyllabic prepositions and disyllabic ones as well. Most of the bisyllabic ones are structured as "root + (tei) " 3. Some of the prepositions have multipal grammar functions. 4. It can be proved that prepositions derive from weak verbs.Up to now, the author has not read any reference materials on Ningxiang dialect.
