The Pacific Theater was one of the most important parts of the Second World War. In the 40' s of the 20th Century, two strong countries, America and Japan deduced a ferocious war stage play there, which had great influence on the process of the Second World War and the postwar period of the Asia and Pacific area even the whole international world. So, it is of great value and apparently practical significant to study the war. Up to now, the historical science circles have made great contribution to it. Yet, it is seldom to specialize in the strategy of America against Japan during the Pacific War. It is indispensable to study the strategy when we do some research on the war, because strategy is the soul of the war. This article tries to expound the strategy through the historical real situation how it laid down, how it carried out and to reveal it's background, substance and influence then to conclude its experience and lessons.There are four parts in this article. Part I introduce the evolution of American strategy against Japan before the Pacific War. It mainly expounds the two sets of strategy plan Which America formulated to counter with Japan between the First World War and the Second World War, known as "Orange Plans" and "Rain bow Plans". The former regarded beating Japan as their military target and put great emphasis on Asia and Pacific area. And the latter changed the monochromatically operation order in the "Orange Plans". The "Rainbow No. 5" defined cooperating with England, France, and "First Europe then Asia" as the principle. The first part gives a minute discussion and evaluation on both the plans' background, process and contains how it laid down and developed.Part II mainly discuss how the strategy set off during thePacific War. It is the key part of the whole article which consists of three small parts: First, the pacific defensive strategy of America during the beginning of the war, Introducing the Arcadia Conference, the afresh affirmation to "First Europe, Then Asia" principle, which was made by America and England. Second, American change from strategic defensive to strategic counter offensive, analyzing the reasons of the change, describing how the strategy carried out. Third, the strategic consideration of America during the later stage of the war, Setting forth the American strategic consideration over the surrender of Japan and the disposal of Japan after the war.Part III principally evaluate the strategy of America against Japan in the Pacific war. It points out the heart of the strategy is his supreme country' s interests which submit to the American whole global strategy. And it objectively probes into the strategy' s influence on the process of the Second World War and the postwar international relations and structure.The last part of this article is conclusion which conclude some experiences and lessons through the study of the American strategy against Japan. |
