Symphony orchestra,a large instrumental ensemble, originated in Europe and was introduced to China in modern times.Over the centuries, symphony orchestras in the western countries have grown in size, and in the mean time developed a unique pattern in operation and management.Consequently,a large number of professional orchestras have emerged.Strategic management theory came into being in the early 20 th century and has become quite mature. It has found successful application in the management of enterprises and nonprofit organizations and has played an extremely important role.Strategic management is the formulation and implementation of a series of development goals and initiatives taken by an enterprise's or an organization's top management based on the analysis of its internal and external environments. For a professional symphony orchestra, strategic management is comparatively new. This paper mainly wants to demonstrate three questions through research:(1)Are the theory and model of strategic management applicable to the symphony orchestra?(2)If strategic management can be used to the symphony orchestra, what is the specific process?(3)What the strategic management means to the symphony orchestra? The author once interviewed the former general manager of Macao Orchestra and knew the actual management process of Macao Orchestra, which is from 2001 to 2008.This paper uses the strategic management process model to re-analyze and re-deduce the actual management process of Macao orchestra, and aims to verify the effectiveness of strategic management in the symphony orchestra.
