On The Aesthetic Transformation Of The Philosophical Proposition "Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words

"Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words" is one of the propositions of the Chinese philosophy "the Distinction between Words and Meaning",which also comprises other two subordinatepropositions--"words being not able to convey meaningabsolutely" and "words being able to convey meaning absolutely". The proposition of "Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words" was initially put forward by Zhuangzi. Through the medium of "image" ,Wangbi synthesized the ideas of "to convey meaning through images" from the the book of Changes ?Phraseology and Zhuangzi's standpoint of "Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words";furthermore, he had made innovations,that is,he advanced a new philosophical proposition of "Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words" different from that of Zhuangzi's. The new proposition contains far more abundant philosophical ideas than that of Zhuangzi's. These ideas,on the one hand,had urged Wei and JinDynasties' various aspects--"living's criteria" ,"literary art" and soon, to present aesthetic appearances other than any other dynasties' --"the demeanour of Wei and Jin"; on the other hand, they had alsomade the metaphysical proposition of "Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words transformed into many concrete aesthetic categories with profound aesthetic meanimngs,such as"Comparision Symbolism","Image Theory" and "Artistic Conception",etc. Thus,our country's huge and sophisticated aesthetic systems with the ethnic characteristics had been established,and which had a far-reaching influence on Chinese classical aesthetic ideas.However,at present, owing to ignoring or neglecting the significant differences about the relationship of words and meaning between the fields of aesthetics and philosophy, some scholars misunderstand largely the problem of the aesthetic transformation on the philosophical proposition. Therefore,to find the root cause of the different relationship of meaning and words in different fields,the paper also sets about analysing the philosophical background on the theory of "Catching Meaning While Forgetting Words",and demonstrating that attention should be paid to the internal trains of thought during the aesthetic transformation of the philosophical proposition.Any criticism and suggestions from this paper are welcome for my future study of the topic.
