George Gordon Byron is an outstanding poetic figure in England in 19th century. During his short lifetime of thirty-six years, Byron composed many excellent poetic works, among which, his last work, the unfinished Don Juan is impressively notable. As an epic satire, Don Juan is regarded as Byron's masterpiece representing his life experience and artistic skills. The wide variety, the recreation of traditional hero and special stanza make the epic quite original. Among the artistic skills the poet has applied in the poem, elaborate structure, satirical digression and ironic revelation add particular charm to the poem. This thesis focuses on the structure of the poem showing emotional symmetry and dialectic parallel, digressions used by poet reflecting the second hero and main function of the epic, as well as revelation of Oedipal dilemma and Seven Deadly Sins to give prominence to the satiric effect produced by these poetical devices.
