Russian Satirical Literature Of The 18th And 19th Centuries

Russian satirical literature has formed a clear and continuous development course in Russia.Russian satirical literature,since rooting in social reality and being good at shaping characters with distinct personalities,complements and develops the theme of nobody in the tradition of Russian literature.The ugly reality provides endless material for satirical literature and is the external condition to promote the development of Russian satirical literature.Russian writers'natural sense of responsibility and mission is the powerful internal power for that.Aesopian language creates a hidden space for the growth of Russian satirical literature.As a result,Russian satirical literature develops prosperously and achieves great success.This thesis selects the Russian satirical literature in the 18~thh and 19~thh centuries as the research object and makes an overall exploration of its satirical objects,satirical means and satirical styles through the text analysis of its most representative satirical works.The satirical objects of Russian satirical literature in the 18~thh and 19~thh centuries can be divided into three categories,namely,social system,social ethos and psychopathic personality.The irony of social system focuses on the revelation of serfdom and feudalism in Russia.Unreasonable social system leads the society to be ignorant and vulgar,thus causes the parasitic psychology of aristocracy and the servile psychology of ordinary people.All of these disadvantages that hinder social development become the satirical objects of Russian satirical works.According to the different satirical objects,Russian satirical works adopt diversified satirical means.On rhetorical devices,they use fable to satirize Russian bureaucracy and society,use comparison to form more intuitive ironic control system,use caricature to portray characters.On narrative strategy,they use coincident narrative,absurd narrative and exquisite composition to expand interpretation space of the text greatly.Being influenced by satirical objects and satirical means simultaneously,the satirical style of Russian satirical literature is both spicy direct and euphemistic implied,both humorous mockery and tears in the smile.As a whole,it shows a wise and funny Horace style,a harsh and angry Juvenal style,as well as an indirect Menippus style.This thesis focuses on the textual interpretation of Russian satirical literature in the 18~thh and 19~thh centuries.This is not only conductive to the formation of overall cognition of the two centuries of Russian satirical literature,but also positive for the exploration of Russian society.
