With the adoption and popularization of the educational reform in china, the absolute and relative number of the extraordinarily poor students is on the increase. Their consumption power and mental health are the two issues for which the whole society is concerned. People have realized the necessity of making efforts to relieve their economic burden. However, little effort is made to offer the aid in building up their mental health. By making a case study in Jiang Nan University, the writer comes to the findings that mental health of extraordinarily poor students is inferior to that of rich students. Further analysis indicates that besides the influential factor of economic condition, environment and psychological factor have influence on the mental health of those extraordinarily poor students. Thus, the writer calls for the special and sufficient attention to the extraordinarily poor students from the whole society so that favorable circumstances for their prosperous future in society and campus will be founded.
