China is a multinational country. The Yi Nationality, who reside in Chuxiong Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province in China, have been developing a splendid national culture. They have their own spoken and written languages - the Yi language. The Yi language is not a regional dialect of the Chinese language. It has a distinctive grammatical system. It uses "pictographs" and "ideographic" generally referred to as "characters". These symbolize objects and actions and contain little or no indication how they are to be pronounced. It has a long history. But so far no research has ever been done on the language. And in fact, no grammar books are available. In this dissertation, an attempt is made to analyze the syntactic structure of the language.
