The paper attempts to disclose the fact that the literature of the New Period has been influenced by the traditional Chinese poetry. Though the phenomenon was not very obvious in the literature creation during the New Period, it is still significant to make some research it. The method resorted to write the paper is a combination of theoretical illustration with intensive reading analysis. A general view is outlined over the elements of traditional poetry in the literary works during the New Period. The textual narration characteristics resulted from this are also analyzed.The Part of Introduction is the reasons for the choice of the topic. The literature of the New Period has been influenced by the classical Chinese poetry tradition. This tradition looms in the literary works of the New Period, which is so subtle that it is almost unrecognizable.The body of the paper contains three parts. Part one defines the concepts of the elements of poetic nature. Also generalized are the textual features of the works presented when the poetic elements occur. Then the presentation of the poetry elements in the development of the modern Chinese literature is explored. The trace of the theoretical category is disclosed.Part Two is the center of the paper. In accordance with the presentation of the poetry elements in the fiction texts, three types of poetry elements presentation in the New Period literature are generalized, namely, the image elements, the sensibility elements and the philosophy elements.In the section of image elements, in light with the interpretation of the works written by Wang Zengqi, He Liwei, Lin Jinlan, and A Cheng, the outlook of the presentation of the "image" of the classical Chinese tradition in the literature of the NewPeriod is explored. The absorb of the image elements changed the characteristics of thefictional narration, which is illustrated by highlighting of the narrative language of fiction, the prompting of the non-plot tendency of the novel structure, the vague of the theme. A final point is about the limitation of the image elements to the highlighting the theme.In the section of sensibility elements, the development of sensibility elements in Chinese literature is reviewed. With the interpretation of the novels of Baihui, ,Changhengge and the grassland series written by Zhang Chengzhi, the presentation of sensibility category of classical Chinese poetry tradition in the literature of the New Period is illustrated. Then the impact of absorbing the sensibility elements on the narrative characteristics of novels is analyzed: seeking luxurious linguistic style, the change of the structure mode of fiction, the planning element of equal emphasizing the sensibility and the plot, even profiling on the former. Then the limitation of the sensibility elements to the narrative structure is pointed out, that is the weakening and the lacking of variety of the narrative structure.In the section of philosophy elements, the tendency of becoming complicated of philosophy in the New Period literature is pointed out. The method of presentation "moral" in the Chinese traditional poetry, symbol is reviewed. Through interpreting the works of Yu Hua's Huozhe, Wang Anyi's Xiaobaozhuang, Li Rui's series novels of Houtu, the fact that the existence of large amount of philosophy elements of traditional poetry in the New Period literature is illustrated. A final point is to explore the impact of philosophy on the narrative characteristics of the New Period literature: the works itself is a intact world of symbols and the figures is the incarnation of pure beliefs and the language represents the traditional characteristics of poetry.Part Three focuses on the analysis of the impact and limitation of the poetry elements of the New Period literature on narration. The traditional cultural resources of the New Period literature are also implored.
