A Study About The Trichotomy To The Structure Of The Lexicographical Sememic Description Elements

This thesis mainly expounds an analytical method in structure of the lexicographical sememic description elements, namely the structural trichotomy to the lexicographical sememic description elements. The trichotomy sorts the lexicographical sememic description elements into core elements, main elements and marker elements. The main content of this thesis is to explore the value of the method.The research characters of this thesis are as follows:1. Broadly speaking, this thesis is a study on the sememic micro-structure which nowadays is the focus of lexicography and semantics.2. Specifically speaking, this thesis is a study on the lexicographical sememic description micro-structure, that is to say, this thesis takes the concrete lexicographical definition as it's research platform and base, because lexicographical definition is a primary and effective means of sememic description.3. It sorts the sememic description elements into three types in terms of structure.The research scope of this thesis is the 1500 disyllabic compound words (sememe),which are taken out from the MODERN CHINESE DICTIONARY (the firth edition). These words consist of 500 nouns, 500 verbs and 500 adjectives. On the basic of the analysis of the words, a processed corpus is built in this thesis.This thesis consists of six chapters. The first two chapters draw out the theme, and from chapter three to chapter five is the main body of this thesis. The content of each chapter is as follows:Chapter one is the introduction. It reviews the studies on the sememic micro-structure, making a concise comment on the past researches. Then the aim, significance, main content, framework,corpus and research method of this thesis are presented.Chapter two mainly interprets the detailed meaning of the structural trichotomy to the lexicographical sememic description elements, and defines the concepts appeared in this thesis.Chapter three mainly discusses the direct value of the structural trichotomy to the lexicographical sememic description elements, namely, it thoroughly depicts and analyses the sorted three elements of the sememic description micro-structure, describing the measurement, distribution, function, character and relative contrast research of each, for description itself is of great importance.Chapter four mainly expounds on the theoretical value of the structural trichotomy to the lexicographical sememic description elements. By means of the trichotomy, this thesis attempts to explore the microscopic semantic relationship between the lexicographical metalanguage and the objective language, exactly speaking, the microscopic semantic relationship between the three elements of lexicographical semetic description and the object word. This chapter puts the emphasis both on the distribution of the morphemes of the object word in the three elements and on the semantic structure between the object word and the core element. The type of the semantic distribution is summarized to 22 main classes and the type of the semantic structure is summarized to 9 main classes, exploration of each class is carried out respectively through which lots of data analysis run. It includs the character interpretation, measurement analysis, quality depiction and the law summarization of the type of the semantic distribution and the semantic structure.Chapter five mainly discusses the applied value of the structural trichotomy of the lexicographical sememic description elements, putting emphasis on its applied value on lexicography,especially the values on dictionary compilation and lexicographical definition,such as offering throught and guidance to the building of lexicographical metalanguage, affording convenience to the further study on the semantic system of metalanguage and the three wordclass sememe of the object word and the relationship between them,examing the definition mode of the paradigmatic semantic field consisting of the words belonging to the same wordclass under the same cognitive frame,judging the quality of lexicographical definition, guiding the unity of lexicographical definition mode from content to form, from disorder to order in the semantic field of movement.In addition, the value derived from the structural trichotomy to the lexicographical sememic description elements almost permeats through the whole thesis. Namely, by means of the trichotomy, this thesis explores the similarities and differences of the sememic description elements of the noun, verb and adjective in structure, distribution and law in limited scope, giving prominence to the differences.Chapter six summarizes the whole thesis, points out the shortcomings of this thesis and looks forward to the further research. Though the structural trichotomy to the lexicographical sememic description elements is an attempt, it is still of value and signifigance, it at least can offer some reference to the research on the sememic description micro-structure and the lexicographical definition.
