Gui Yuan Bi Geng Ji is collected works of some official and private documents by Cui Zhiyuan ,who was a Korea (then called Xinluo) Jinshi (the successful candidate in the highest imperial examination ) in the Tang Dynasty .Cui Zhiyuan had finished the articles of the book in Huai Nan. Compared with the two Tang book and Zi Zhi Tong Jian, this book was more original and so had more higher value in the literature .It was valuable in research of the Late Tang Dynasty and especially of the Gao Pian' s mufu (office of the commanding general ancient China) in Huai Nan. so it could amend the defects and falsehoods in historical literatures of Tang. The earliest utilization of it was the Annotation of Qin Fu Yin of Wei Zhuang by Mr.Chen Yinque. Afterwards there were still some other scholars, such as Tian Tingzhu, Feng Hanyong, Yang Weisheng, Dang Yingping, who researched into this book. Their researches, however, dwelt on one or some aspects ,and seldom did total researches. This article holds that this book should be analyzed and researched comprehensively.This article is composed of three parts.Part One: this part reviews Cui Zhiyuan 's life in Tang Dynasty .It makes use of the records of the book, combined with other of Tang Dynasty. Also this part corrects some errors of previous scholars.Part Two : examination of the literature value. Firstly, it reviews the deeds of Gao Pian in detail, correcting some mistakes in the two Tang book and Zi Zhi Tong Jian about Gao Pian. Secondly this part examines the official positions in Gao Pian's mufu in Huai Nan. It uses this book referring to other historical literatures. Lastly, this part offers a supplementary examination. It uses the relevant records of the book to amend and replenish the deficiencies of the two Tang Book and Zi Zhi Tong Jian.Part Three: the handing-down and edition of the book. This part makes use of the lists of some bibliophile in the Qing Dynasty, combined with other relevant records. It narratives clearly the handing-down and the extant editions.
