Chinese ancient literary theory emphasizes the relation between literature and politics all the time. Resulting from the theories about "stimulate the mind, self-contemplation, sociability , feelings of resentment" and literary works convey the Tao, poetry and prose turns into literary stereotype of Chinese literature respectively. And to novel, Ban-Gu defined as just street gossip and hearsay which were irrelevant to the country's affairs.(the History of the Han Dynasty 鈥?Document of art and literature) , and, this thought has been followed over 2000 years. Although there were some arguments on the social function of novel, i.e. Huantan said in his book new argument that the novel had some available words that was helpful for one to cultivate his morality and to manage family affairs, and, the novel theorists of past ages tapped the novel's important social political functions from every aspect etc., this could not change the traditional novel viewpoint in spite of their enforce that the theorists had been raised utmost that the novel could avoid moral degeneration during late Ming Dynasty. Liang Qichao who promoted the revolution in the novel circle and held that it could enlighten children and save the nation bestowed a sublime mission on novel, meanwhile he put forward a slogan that the novel was the best literary form from then on. This theory had accomplished a surpass in a given time for its absorption and inherit of novel theories of past times. So, in view of the resent situation of the studying of the relationship between the theory of Liang and tradition, this thesis starting from the traditional functional viewpoint of the novel, discusses Liang Qichao's novelviewpoint of political functions and its key significance of improving the novel, and, analyses the subject reason of Liang Qichao who was regarded as a current politician and the given foreground of late Qin Dynasty. Lastly, the impression on the novel and viewpoint at that time and later is our anther article in this thesis, and, we will show that is an important aspect of locating Liang Qichao' novel theory.
