Liang Qichao had an extensive and far-reaching influence on the modern history of China, especially for his thoughts on party. In the study of the formation of Liang Qichao's idea of parties, it is not difficult to find that his conception can be divided into the following six stages: in the period of the Society for National Strengthening, his idea of Association was expressive of his sense of china's traditional party without the influence from the western political party thoughts; in the period of Shiwu Journal(Siwu Bao, published every ten days in shanghai in 1896), he had clearly put forward the concept of modern party, and spoke highly of western political party in Shiwu Journal; in the period of the Hundred Days' Reform, he take the initiative to participate in the foundation of the Society of Protecting the Nation (Baoguohui, a political constitution) under the guidance of his concept, in an attempt to form political party in China, but he did not mentioned the exercise of party politics; during his exile to Japan, he established the concept of two-party system as a result of his massive dabbling in western books on politics and of his exploring the political practices in the United States; later on, with the rising voice for constitutional monarchy at home, his awareness of political party strengthened. Therefore, he formed Political News Agency in an effort to promote the development of the constitutional movement in China; after the establishment of the Republic of China, to implement two-party system, he formed the Progressive Party to compete with Kuomintang for power to implement two-party system, so far his concept of political party became mature and took shape. In the formation of his concept of political parties, Liang Qichao, consistently aiming at establishing a constitutional government of the bourgeois in China, advocated the the constitutional monarchy. And he adopted the British "two-party system" as an effective way to improve China's traditional politics, in the hope of accomplishing the task to save China from extinction, and ensure its survival, rejuvenation and prosperity in modern times.
