The famous Chinese free sketch artist XuWEi in Ming Dynasty and the well-known Dutch painter Van Gogh in the 19th century are two outstanding figures in China and the west in the fields of painting, whose works have conquered millions of people over the world with its unique charm.. <>and <>represent respectively their masterpieces. Although the two artists differ from each other in terms of living, tools and materials of drawing, language and the principles of formation. Yet, the ordeal they faced and the style, idea, the manifestation of art which resulted from it are very much alike. This article mainly use the research method of art historiography as well as the means of comparison to make a systemic analysis, contrast and study of the painting art are between XuWei and Van Gogh.The whole article is devided into 4 parts.Firstly, life of tragedy. The article analyses the personal experience and social historical background of the two artists. As long as the artists are individuals of society, their art cannot stand without it. Simultaneously, the forming of their style of art is directly influenced by their experience and social environment.Secondly, works of masterpiece. The representative works of XuWei and Van Gogh are selected to be analysed in this article in order to bear out that their works are the mirror of their tortuous experience of life.Thirdly, works of genius. The article mainly emphasizes on different layers by means of the style, the theme, the thought and the state.Fourthly, achievements and influence. The article concludes the achievements of painting art and their influence their creations have made to the descendants.Finally, through the abundant and careful research of the two artists, based on the comprehensive analysis, the author summarizes the inspiration their practices have made.
