| Vincent van Gogh, a master of western expressionist paintings in the 19 century, holds a significant position in art history due to his unique artistic style. He is most famous for his interpretation characteristic of his artistic style. Interpretation and reproduction are two artistic creation tendencies. This paper begins with the conception of interpretation and reproduction, expounds the social background of Vincent van Gogh, and then introduces the formative course of Van Gogh's interpretation in his art of painting. The paper analyzes the interpretation of Van Gogh's art of painting from three aspects of artwork structure: form part, imagery part and artistic conception part through the perspectives of art therapy, aesthetics and psychology. Finally, the paper makes some comments on the artistic value of Van Gogh's paintings and provides some inspirations to art workers according to the current art situation.
