The thesis studies on Xiang Zhou with the Southern Dynasty's economy, politics, military affairs, nationalities, transportation, and geographic environments as its backdrop and with the relation between Xiang Zhou and the separation and reunion of the Southern Dynasty's imperial power as its clue. The thesis researches Xiang Zhou in accordance with the history of the Southern Dynasty's politics and the history of South-and-North's relations' developments to master the Southern Dynasty's central politics and the whole evolvements of South-and-North's relations, which can be made understand further about the Southern Dynasty's history and the whole South-and-North's relations'history. Consequently the historical characteristics of this period can be grasped more exactly.The first part is about the relation between Xiang Zhou and the politics of the Song and Qi Dynasties. The author probes into the reasons that at the beginning of the Song Dynasty Liu Yu established Xiang Zhou and appointed Zhang Shao as the first provincial governor of Xiang Zhou. In this part it analyses not only Xiang Zhou's political trend for Xie Hui Insurgence in Yuan Jia period and the reasons and processes for Xiang Zhou was established and removed many times, but also Xiang Zhou's political trend for Liu Yixuan Insurgence, Yi Jia Rebellion and the shift between the Song Dynasty and the Qi Dynasty. And it enunciates the insurrection of Man tribes in Xiang Zhou, and the relation between Xiang Zhou and the politics at the end of the Chen Dynasty.The second part is about the relation between Xiang Zhou and the politics of the Liang Dynasty. It emphatically analyses Xiao Yan's administration on Xiang Zhou after he established the Liang Dynasty. It also enunciates after Hou Jing Rebellion, the fights for Xiang Zhou among members of the Xiao royal clan, between the court and HouJing's followers and also between the court and Wang Lin's followers. Moreover, the author analyses the political trend of Xiang Zhou in the fights between Jing Yong group with Wang Zhenbian as its core and South Coldman military group with Chen Baxian as its head at the end of the Liang Dynasty.The third part is about the relation between Xiang Zhou and the politics of the Chen Dynasty. In this part it analyses the administrator's control on Xiang Zhou at the early years of the Chen Dynasty and the insurgence of Xiang Zhou's provincial pre-governor Huajiao during Fei emperor period. It also expounds the political state in Xiang Zhou at the end of the Chen Dynasty.The forth part is on Xiang Zhou's Ba Ling. It is about the promotion of Ba Ling's economic status in the Jing and Song Dynasties and its military status promoted further in the Qi and Liang Dynasties. From the establishment of the Chen Dynasty to Hua Jiao Insurgence the political status and the military status of Ba Ling were both promoted, however, at the end of the Chen Dynasty it lost the strategy status.TThe last part is remaining discussions. It analyses the reason that Xiang Zhou was in the low status in the Southern Dynasty and concludes the evolvement of the relation between Xiang Zhou and the Southern Dynasty's politics. Finally it summarizes the major argumentation of the thesis.
