On The Family Life Of The Tang Dynasty's Handicraftsman

This thesis will discuss a subject deliberately in four parts.The first part is "introduction". It mainly sums up the state of the handicraft industry and the handicraftsman of Tang Dynasty. When it comes to the handicraft industry, it was more prosperous than the precious dynasty not only in its type and extent but also in technical ability. To the handicraftsman they, lived by their hands and intelligence.The second part contains three subtitles. Under the first subtitle, the author introduces the marital status of the handicraftsman who seldom had a freedom marriage under the social background at that time.Under the second subtitle, it analyzes the family life of handicraftsman in detail. At first, it describes how they wore , fed and resided. Secondly, it depicts their material life which contents two sections. The first is family income. The most part of the handicraftsman were those with their family in straitened circumstances. The second is family expense. By light of different family background, there was a wide gap between the rich families and the poor. The rich were provided for and every person was well梖ed and well梒lothes, all lived in plenty, on the country were the poor.Thirdly, it describes the cultural life of the families, such as education life, religious life and entertainment'life. To be excellent in skill was the most important thing of handicraftsman in the consequence their family education was always around the skill training. The more superb skill they owned, the more they could earn.The religious life and entertainment life of the handicraftsman was very rich and colorful. The Buddhism and the Taoism were their beliefs. But they paid their primary concern to their founder of craft. Their religious life was not only a part of old Chinese religious, but a most important component of the Tang's folk beliefs. The research on this question will help to understand the life and religious style of the persons in lower strata of Tang's, which also promote us to understand the history of Tang's society better.The third part analyzes the influence of some policies which were exerted on the handicraftsman by the Tang dynasty.The fourth part is "Concluding remarks", the family life of handicraftsman in Tang Dynasty was the one of the element of social life and it had a great effect on social prosperity and political stability. To study the social history of the lower strata of society especially of Tang Dynasty we can not ignore the study of this thesis.
