Tang Thousand Square Women Epitaphs Reflected In Marriage And Family Life

The study on the history of women in recent years is very popular within the world academic circle of sinology,especially the Tang women,who are a more eye-catching social community.Since women not only play a very important role in the making of mankind and history,but also develop a very close relation between their fate and the features of the age,the social status of the male,even the social system.Although the Tang women,who lived thousand years ago,have their own limits,they behaved according to the social regulation and their sex role.Their marriage and family life that are just a reflection of the social and cutural features at that time,aroused the interests of the scholars today.Based on the form-er achivements,this paper made use of more than thousand unearth-ed epitaphs of Tang women,paid close attention to their marriage and family life,dicussed their ethical regulation and living situation. In the preface,the author pointed out that although there are few account about women in the classical historical records,it pres-erved some firsthand information in the epitaphs,particularly about their family life.With the aid of1618epitaphs in the books"A Corp-us of Tang Funerary Inscriptions" (《唐代墓志汇编》)and "Complement to Tang Literature"(《全唐文补遗》),this paper explained the marriage and family life of Tang women.
