The classical Chinese poetry is the highest form of the Chinese language. The translation of classical Chinese poetry, in fact, is the process of transferring the original beauty into the Target Language. The appreciation of classical Chinese poetry inevitably involves the analysis of beauty conveyed by imagery and artistic conception. Generally speaking, traditional Chinese poems are characterized by their suggestiveness, subtlety, implicitness and simplicity, which manifest a kind of fuzzy beauty. People have long recognized the existence of fuzzy beauty in classical Chinese poetry. However such kind of recognition is lack of systematical and theoretical guide until a book called Fuzzy Aesthetics was published at the end of last century.Fuzziness is inherent in poetry, in which fuzzy expressions produce beauty. Classical Chinese poetry reflects the fuzziness of aesthetic activities. Without rich fuzzy beauty, there would be no classical Chinese poetry. In this thesis, on the theoretical basis of fuzzy aesthetics, the author explores the aesthetic nature of verse translation by addressing the aesthetic principle of "transferring fuzzy beauty" and attempts to examine transferring fuzzy beauty at different levels in English translation of classical Chinese poetry. It contributes to providing an artistic re-creation space for English translation of classical Chinese poetry.
