The nominal predicate sentence (NPS) is a sentence model characteristic of Chinese, and frequently used in modern Chinese. This paper uses Three Planes Theory to discuss NPS in a comprehensive way.In preface, we firstly review the history and present situation of NPS study, and list some problems such as the divarication concerning the term and scope of NPS, the deficiency of deepness and extent in its study. Then we discuss the scope of NPS, and establish a criteria of confirming it.Chapter 1 deals with the syntax analysis of NPS. We describe the components of the subject and predicate, and the selecting relationship between them in NPS.Chapter 2 concerns the semantics analysis of NPS. Firstly we analyse the semantic structure of NPS, and list the six possible semantic relationship between its subject and predicate. Then we focus on the obtaining of its statement meaning, believing the function transition of nominal phrase from referent to statement is due to its syntax position and two semantic factors.Chapter3 focus on the pragmatic analysis of NPS. We discuss the thematic structure, information structure, expression function, its situational context and component ellipsis. In the end, we conclude our viewpoint and come out with some topics which still need to deal with.
