Modern Logo Design Based On The Traditional Arts

Based on the Chinese traditional arts, the thesis discusses the application of Chinese traditional graphic symbols in modern logo design in 5 chapters.There are different graphic legacies in different countries, which express rich cultural connotation and have became the symbol of national concepts and spirits. Many graphic symbols possess particular connotations and information functions established by usage, which is similar to modern logo design.With the promotion of communication between China and the West, some Chinese traditional nature concepts and philosophy have been introduced to the West. It can not only make modern logo design have function according with modern design and some cultural connotations but also cast off the limitations on usage and the deviations on meaning of the old symbols to make the design unique, distinguishable, applicable and contemporary by using traditional graphic symbols to modern logo design.In the thesis, the concept of symbol and traditional graphic symbol is clearly defined and their aesthetic connotation is analyzed. Then it is clarified that the generality and specific property of the traditional graphic symbols in modern logo design. The thesis emphasizes on the analysis of the method of using traditional graphic symbols to modern logo design and the mode of borrowing traditional graphic symbols to modern logo design, and etc.China has a civilization history longer than 5000 years. Chinese culture is an inexhaustible thesaurus for designer to use in design. But it is insufficient for modern logo design to inherit and develop the traditional elements. And the forms and general rules are summarized in the thesis.Finally, this thesis summarizes the problem presented, and provides some advicesfor future research.
