Regarding the Viewpoints about the MutualTransformation between the Mediums of Film and LiteratureLiterature, which is a medium in printed form, is surrounded by a mainstream audio-visual mass culture .As a result it is undergoing a significant impact from all kinds of electronic media, such as film, television, and the Internet.This article has selected to research the medium of film in order to contrast it with literature. This basis of this research is the idea that "the medium is the message."Through a detailed description of the developmental history of the close interaction between film and literature, which has existed for over a century, and through a detailed analysis of the relationship and differences between film and literature, this article focuses on the mutual transformation between literature and film.The article is divided into four parts. The first part reviews the history that film has attained from literature, including not only techniques such as structure, dialogue, the use of scenes, but also all kinds of source material.The second part of this article reviews the new trend of the transformation, which often occurs between literature and film. Special emphasis is given to the way in which literature has been changed by film. Furthermore attention is given to the way in which film has affected the creativity of literary writers, including changes in techniques, ideas, style and language.The third part contrasts film and literature from 5 different angles: structure, theme, rhythm, the process of production and the method of appreciation. Then, this article draws the important conclusion that the 2 mediums cannot be replaced for they have a unique essence In the final and fourth part this article makes the some predictions and assumptions, in this section the subtle distinctions in the production of Chinese and American films is reviewed. This article also discusses the latent crisis in the literature of China. However after thorough research into this topic the conclusion is made that Chinese literature like the literature from other countries also has a bright future.This is an age where cultural research is rooted in most human science fields. The study of the intricate relationship between literature and film has been discussed for many years, but not in a systematic way. After considering the new practices and methods related to this field, this article chooses the viewpoint of McLuhan as well as some new developing trends in order to better understand and analyze the future transformation of the 2 mediums of literature and film. The author of this article, as one who studies literature, takes the view that both literature and film, although interconnected, can and should continue to develop independent of one another.
