The People's Republic of China is a unitary multi-nationalstate created jointly by the people of all its nationalities. Allnationalities in the People's Republic of China are equal. The stateprotects the lawful rights and interests of the minority nationalitiesand upholds and develops a relationship of equality, unity andmutual assistance among all of China's nationalities. Discriminationagainst and oppression of any nationality are prohibited; any actwhich undermines the unity of the nationality or instigates divisionis prohibited. Citizens of the P.R.C enjoy freedom of religious belief.The Chinese leaders are always emphasize ethnic and religiousproblems .Xinjiang is a minority ethnic region with thirteen majornationalities, largely including Uygur, Han, Kazak, Hui Kirgiz,Mongolian, Russion, Tajik, Uzbek, Tatar, Manchu, Daur andothers. Uygur is a main nationality in Xinjiang. Xinjiang is amulti-religious region as well. There are eight religions in all inXinjiang, including Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Roman Catholicsand so on. Islam is the most important religion in Xinjiang. Theethnic and religious problems have been always important things atany times. It's a matter of stability and development of Xinjiang. 1Based on a great deal of firsthand information, socialsciences information and some other information, the paper probesinto Jin shuren's policy towards nationalities and religions in anall-round ways.
