| In 1920s,Mr. Gujiegang put forward a theory that Chinese ancient history was formed by "Cenglei'Mt overthrowed completely the old system of Chinese ancient history,and it caused far-flung arguments among academic community. However,about this theory,it is not still made out an identical opinion. Today, during the course of rebuilding Chinese civilization history,we reconsider and judge this theory from a new view is very important,which is not only concerned with how to appraise this theory,but the trend of the research on Chinese civilization origin.This article ,directed by historical materialism and based on the newest fruits of academic community, makes some new explorations according to documentary and archaeological documents. Reviewing the concerned appraisement of the theory ,analyzing the relation between "cenglei" theory and historical materialism and the historical "elements and cores" of myths and legends,and so on, exploring the realistic significance of reconsidering on"Cenglei" theory, the penman points out that we should attach great importance to Gujiegang's "cenglei" theory of Chinese ancient history.
