On the basis of former research, the dissertation describes and analyzes the four Chinese object prepositions "dui, xiang, gen, gei" from the perspectives of semantic, grammar and pragmatics. The dissertation points out several semantic subcategories, nuclear subcategories and basic semantic features of the four prepositions respectively, concludes the special usages of the each four prepositions. The author also discusses the similar and different usages of the four prepositions. Furthermore, the author has made a specific analysis of the common errors of the four prepositions made by the foreign students through a series of investigations on their spoken and written Chinese. Based on these discussions, some comments are made on improving the teaching of prepositions in Chinese as a foreign language courses.
