All- around education and culture awareness have been drawing foreign language educators 'interest since its importance in FLT was recognized twenty years ago. However, despite the prosperity of theoretical researches, the practice in foreign language departments in Chinese universities and colleges seem to be in an unsystematic state, which directly bring negative effects on students' development of personality.In China, the achievement of all- around education is far from satisfactory. This has much to do with the lack of intercultural orientation in all- around education. The thesis presents a thesis of the interrelationship among language, culture and communication, as well as a review of the research in this field done by all-around education experts worldwide, which serves as theoretical foundations accounting for the necessity of ideal personality in tertiary English program. Based on theory of the "ideal personality", the author proposes the integrating teaching as a suitable teaching model in all- around education for foreign language majors, especially for English majors.Jn addition, this thesis explores such essential issues of all- around education as goals, aims, content, textbooks, teachers and tests in line with the rationale of teaching to all- around education...
