On the study of commanders in late Song Dynasty with general MENG Gong as the center, this thesis emphasizes on the interaction between commanders of borderlands and military force of Song Dynasty, and on that how the interaction was generated and how it influenced the military force. This thesis was discussed in two ways. One is the principle insisted on by the commanders, the other is the pattern the commander dealt with kinds of different relations.Despite of the interruption of compromising thoughts, commanders strived to fight back the invading enemy, and to encourage the spirits of soldiers. They worked hard to pursue achievements and successes, and asked their counterparts to do so.In the bilateral relations between literal and martial officials, or between superior and subordinate officials, commanders inclined to eliminate contradiction and promote trust. They also wanted to receive vagrants and former traitors to strengthen their country. Many efforts were made to protect, to console, and to help the residents living in borderlands. All in a word, though there were heavy burdens, commanders in borderlands endeavored to stick to their faith of fighting, which led to a great contribution of military force .And with the efforts of commanders, Southern Song Dynasty could stand so long under the attack of Mongolians.
