In the 21st century, news has become an indispensable part in people's daily life. News translation, in its own way, provides people with the information promptly and effectively. And its great importance is self-evident. However, much of the translated news is awkward to read and translationese has become a common problem, let alone some mistakenly-translated information. While the relevant studies mainly focus on the stylistic features of news language and practical translation techniques, not many discussions aim at the principles of news translation. In view of this situation, this dissertation firstly reviews the classical expositions on translation principles by researchers at home and abroad as well as some relevant studies on news translation, and then expounds those basic concepts related to news and analyses the stylistic features of news English from the lexical, grammatical and rhetorical perspective. On the basis of Newmark's communicative translation, the author tentatively proposes four principles for news translation, namely fidelity, readability, adaptability and rapidity. Practice shows that those four principles are quite applicable and bear certain theoretical significance as well as guidance value.
