"Existence" and "Nothingness" are important correspondent conceptions about the noumenon of the universe in philosophy, the understanding of the origin and noumenon of the world. The enrichment and development of Taoist philosophy is closely related to the argumentation and meditation on the noumenon conceptions as Existence and Nothingness. Through tracing the history of the Existence-Nothingness ontology accompanying Taoist philosophy, this thesis tries to highlight the changing process of systematic development of the Taoist philosophical truth in the Jin and Tang Dynasties. This thesis is constituted of four parts. Part one introduces the philosophy on the formation of the universe in the pre-Qin period, and the advance of "Existence-Nothingness" ontology in Taoism. Part two states the influence upon the Taoist ontology from "Existence-Nothingness" ontology of Wei-Jin Dynasties. Part three explains the "Existence-Nothingness" ontology resulted from the interaction of the metaphysical speculations and Taoist philosophy. Part four comments on the pushing of the metaphysical speculation to Taoist "Existence-Nothingness" ontology. On one hand, the author attempted to take advantage of the richness of the relative materials concerning Taoist philosophy, to use these materials comprehensively and analytically. On the other hand, focusing on the theme of"Existence-Nothingness" ontology and Taoism, the author selected necessary materials and neglect the irrelevant information that is about economic, political or cultural background; and for the same reason, in order to give enough prominence to the continuous development of Taoist philosophy, the relationship between Buddhism and Taoism is given little space in this paper.Corrections or suggestions to this paper will be honestly thanked and appreciated.
