This study, involving 299 junior middle school students in three grades and mainlyusing methods of questionnaire survey, explored the relationship between the characteristicsof idolatry (having or having no idols; idolatry type; idolatry degree) and different self-worthdimensions and academic achievements. The results showed as below: 1. There were significant differences of the numbers of students between having idolsand having no idols. But there were no significant differences of the numbers of the studentswho have idols on grade and sex. Significant differences existed in different idolatry types."Singers and movie stars" and "notable person" are the mainstream adored by junior middleschool students. There were significant differences on idolatry degrees. A majority of studentschose "adore highly, but saneness,abstention". On sex, the numbers of the boys who adore"sports stars" and "notable person" are more than the numbers of girls significantly, while thenumbers of the boys who adore "Singers and movie stars" were less than the numbers of girlssignificantly. There were no significant differences among different grades. 2. There were significant main effects on different self-worth dimensions (except theindividual family special self-worth) for having or having no idols. The self-worth of havingidols' students is higher than the self-worth of having no idols' students significantly. On sex,the total self-worth of boys is higher than girls, but individual family special self-worth is onthe contrary. There existed main effect on most self-worth dimensions for grades. Generally,the self-worth of Grade Three is the highest, then the Grade Two and the lowest, Grade Two. 3. There were no significant main effects on most of the self-worth dimensions foridolatry type. As for idolatry degree, the students' most of the self-worth dimensions whochose "adore highly, but saneness,abstention" were higher than "adore normally" and "adoregreatly, insaneness". 4. There were no significant differences between the academic achievements of "havingidols" students and "having no idols" ones. There existed significant interaction on academicachievement for idolatry type and idolatry degree. The achievement of the students who adore"Singers and movie stars" ,"sports stars" on the degree of "adore greatly, insaneness" werelower significantly than the students who adore "Singers and movie stars" ,"sports stars" onthe degree of "adore highly, but saneness,abstention", while the achievement of the studentswho adore "notable person" on the degree of "adore greatly, insaneness" were highersignificantly than the students who adore "notable person" on the degree of "adore normally".
