As the chief media for visual expression in graphic design, graphics are not only the carrier of information, but also an effective tool to communicate with the audience. The purpose of graphic design in modern society is to create a kind of visual image that is easily recognized and can convey information in a very efficient and vivid way. Furthermore, it tries to grasp the attention of the audience in a very short time by means of striking and novel graphics, and make the audience feel the message transmitted by the graphics. Whether this goal can be achieved effectively or not depends, to a great extent, on the tension of graphic design. Therefore, it is very necessary to study the graphic tension, which is a significant issue in the research of the theory on graphic design. This thesis tries to explore graphic tension from the perspective of graphic theory and the research on graphic application. The part of graphic theory starts from the discussion of the definition concerning graphic and tension, dealing with the issue of rationality. The theoretical base for this part includes morphology, design aesthetics, physiology and psychology etc. starting from the research on the physiological, psychological and the specific factors of graphic tension, this part tries to analyze graphic tension in a relatively systematic way and explore the understanding of graphic tension from various perspectives. The second part tries to analyze the components of graphic tension in a detailed way and merge these components into the space order in a vivid and logical way, by employing the artistic techniques and rules and analyzing a large number of works of design. By doing this, we try to make sure that the graphic itself can convey visual message exactly, which is the purpose of the discussion in this thesis. Through demonstrate, the thesis sum up a conclusion:modern graghic design have a dependence connection with visual tension and psychological tension;The composing of graphic is a harmonious expression with "besides form" and "immanency method";The aesthetics attribute of Grapgic design not only define balance and unification,but also cadence and gradus etc, and yet it consist immanency attribute of graphic with tension that is based on "The same structure of heterogeneity" and "The same structure of homomorphism" in aesthetics essential .
