This research started from the study of readability, reviewed the examples mainly from their clarity. Clarity is one of the most important standards in judging the readability. In this study, examples were analyzed at design level with investigation and the feedback from the Chinese learners and the teachers. Questions related to examples design were also analyzed and discussed. Finally, five standards of reviewing examples were offered.In this study, questions were raised with the clarity of some examples of the five textbooks when reviewing the clarity of the examples. Thus this study analyzed their clarity from the standard, salience, sufficiency, learnable words and context autonomy of the examples.This study pinpointed the gap between the need of the users of the examples and the design of textbooks from the viewpoint of the textbook users. Suggestions about the writing of the textbook examples were offered to improve the quality of the textbook examples. This paper seeks to help the design of the examples of Chinese textbook to improve the accord of Chinese textbooks with not only the characteristics of the language itself but also the need of the users.
