Jerusalem is one of the most ancient cities of the world through hardship as the center of many fights, yet is also a modern city with a high technology economic sector and plays a central role in the politics of the region. The chief reason why Jerusalem is no stranger to conflict is its unique position in the world as a place sacred to three monotheistic faiths—Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The city was unified following the 1967 Six-Day War, and then the entire city was under the control of Israel. The politics of Jerusalem since 1967 are based on the unique and specific nature of the city as holy place of three religions. They are also related to Israel's attitude to Palestine - Israel conflicts. This essay analyzes the background and process of Jerusalem's unification, and the Israel's politics of Jerusalem since 1967.This thesis consists of three parts. The preface elaborates the research condition, significance and method. The body is made up of three parts. The first part analyzes the historical background of the 1967 Six-Day War, and the situation of Jerusalem before this war. The meaning of "Jerusalem" is "city of peace", but for hundreds of years it has been through too many disasters. Following the conclusion of Israel's War of Independence, Jerusalem remained divided city from 1949 until 1967. Under Jordanian rule, the development level of the city's eastern section was worse than that of West Jerusalem. The second part discusses the Israel's policies of Jerusalem from 1967 to 1992 such as religion politics, demography politics, housing politics and economic politics. Extending Jewish religious rights, maintaining the character of Jerusalem as Christian Holy Place and weakening the power of Muslim community were three overlapping religion politics in the city. In Jerusalem, an absolute increase in the overall Jewish population was necessary. For a quarter of a century the Israel government had been pursuing this policy that has set the parameters of other related policies relating to economic development, town planning, and housing construction. In order to counterbalance the steady growth in the Palestinian Arab population, inducement such as subsidized mortgages and services were introduced to attract a continual stream of new immigrants. Then the exact location of new housing construction reflects the additional political objective of securing physical control over the annexed parts of the enlarged Jerusalem. As for the economic development, despite the occupation ofEast Jerusalem and the adjacent parts of the West Bank, the economy of Jerusalem still suffered from its natural disadvantages. The government had tried to overcome those limitations by launching new initiatives in high-tech industry, building modern industrial campus and promoting tourism. The third part probes into the influence of these policies of Jerusalem from 1967 to 1992 on the city itself and Palestine - Israel conflicts. In the 25 years, Jerusalem experienced three stages. In addition to the enlargement of the city, living situation, high-tech industry and the development of centers of art and culture all advanced to a better position. But for the public security, the whole economic growth and the attraction to migrants, Jerusalem encountered many problems especially in East Jerusalem. The Israel state drives to secure Jerusalem as an Israeli Jewish city in order to make accomplished fact, by which to build up its advantage against Palestine and Arab - Islam world. The conflict between Palestine and Israel not only brings the two countries too many disasters but also endangers the peace in the area. In the Madrid Conference and the Declaration of Principles in Oslo in September 1993, Jerusalem problems had been consigned to the end of the agenda of the peace negotiations, yet the failure to resolve them may jeopardize the whole of the negotiations. Resolving Jerusalem problems needs flexibility, wisdom, courage and insight.
